2011 Monopoly Championships
The annual Lincoln Monopoly Championships sponsored by Chartered Surveyors Banks Long & Co was held on the 29th December at the Green Dragon Broadgate, courtesy of Laura Barnett and her colleagues.
As in previous years 6 first round games were played by a range of professionals and business people involved in the Lincoln property scene before the six finalists emerged.
Last year’s champion Rob Mapletoft of Lincoln Valuation Office again reached the final where he was up against Chartered Surveyor Liz Welbourn of Lincolnshire Cooperative and accountants Steve Tointon of Saul Fairholm and Jim Carratt of Nicholsons, and the brothers Steff and Jerome Wright of Gusto Construction.
In the end after a dramatic final contest with Jim Carratt during which the advantage swung back and forth, Jerome Wright emerged once again as the Champion having previously won the title in 2004.
Guest Banker for the final was Malcolm Thompson, now a stalwart of Lincoln Community Radio but a former Banker himself and the trophy was presented by Banks Long & Co Director Tim Bradford. Jerome said that he was thrilled to be champion again and was already looking forward to defending his title next year.
As well as providing some light relief between Christmas and the New Year, Tim was delighted to report that the competition should raise at least £600 for the Lincoln Cathedral Turrets Campaign.
