A strong Banks Long & Co All-star team won their first cricket game of the 2009 season, comfortably beating a team from Lindum Construction on the evening of the 6th May. Having won the toss Banks Long skipper Bradford chose to take advantage of the better light and bat first, an inspired decision as the team went on to rack up a fine score of 161, in their allotted 16 overs, with Greaves, Gouldthorp, Linwood and Butcher all weighing in with decent scores of 25. Wall’s second ball duck warrants a mention as its rare to see a batsman have his middle stump dismantled without even attempting to play a shot!
Lindum started their reply slowly losing quick wickets, with three down before they’d reached 20. A fine run out by Linwood with a direct throw from 30 metres being the highlight. Some tidy bowling and fielding by the Banks Long team kept the scoring rate down, with Havenhand being the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets for only 13 runs. A late rally by Lindum’s last pair Sizer and Frankish adding 34 for the last wicket, helping them reach a respectable score of 121 in their 16 overs. The 41 run victory by Banks Long & Co was a fair reflection of their dominance throughout the game and bodes well for the tougher games to come later this season.
