Bradford’s Bulls Barge their way to victory once again!
Bradford’s Bulls for the second year running dominate the Banks Long and Lindum Group 8-a-side cricket day in scorching conditions.
The Lindum Cricket Club was again host to the annual Banks Long & Co and Lindum Group Cricket Tournament, this year growing in size to 8-a-side due to the success of previous years. With the sun beaming down the tournament kicked off with Butcher’s Battalion dressed in black captained by James Butcher of Banks Long taking on Barradell’s Bandits in sky blue who eventually won the tie, while the neighbouring pitch saw John Gouldthorp lead by example making 29 runs off just 7 balls with the Gunners racking up a huge 198 runs to leave Conroy’s Cavalry trailing behind.
Defending champions Bradford’s Bulls dressed in royal blue had a tough first round match against Gregory’s Gladiators who turned out a strong side with last minute addition Ross McGregor of Lindum Group, however, strong consistent bowling saw the Bulls win the match by a narrow 9 runs.
As the day progressed the temperature rose, as did the standard of cricket. Balls were being dispatched to all parts of the grounds by big hitters such as Bob Swainson, John Knight, Simon Bridge and David Jockel. The lower place play offs saw hard fought competition between business rivals, as bankers fought bankers and solicitors checked the small print.
As most players retreated to the bar for shade and refreshments the final two teams took to the field for the tournament deciding match between the surprise finalists Barradell’s Bandits and reigning champions Bradford’s Bulls. It was a closely contested affair which saw Tim Bradford’s Bulls emerge victorious thanks to some accurate bowling and tight fielding, as well as some big sixes from local MP Karl McCartney, in front of an increasing crowd gathering in the evening sunshine.
A great day of cricket was concluded with more refreshments, meal and a presentation from Herman Kok MD of Lindum Holdings.
