Bypass Will Breathe New Life Into Firms
NEW life will be breathed into industrial estates in the north-east of Lincoln by the hotly-anticipated eastern bypass, say business leaders.
Peter Banks, of Chartered Surveyors Banks Long & Co, said the eastern bypass would open up access to the Allenby and Deacon Road industrial estates to create commercial opportunities.
"What we suffer badly from at the moment is imbalance," he said.
"The south west of the city is where people want to be at the moment and we won't correct that until we get the bypass, which will give places like Deacon Road and Allenby a future. They have been stagnating for 20 years." Mr Banks added that there was no reason why landowners could not start building houses around the bypass from 2013.
The redevelopment of the Outer Circle Road area for industrial use gathered pace between 1946 and 1966.
Today, its uses are commercial, industrial and retail, with the most development being housing. Meanwhile, Lincolnshire County Council is consulting ahead of its £5 million bid for Government cash for transport improvements to the south west of Lincoln and North Hykeham. The bid includes the Doddington Road and Whisby Road business areas. Ideas suggested include a park and ride scheme out of Hykeham station complete with shuttle bus links, and better footpaths and cycle routes.
