Dragon Boat Success for Banks Long
Banks Long and Co recently took part in the Lincolnshire Co-operative Annual Charity Dragon Boat Challenge. The event was held on the 20th July, raising money for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance Appeal as part of the successful Lincoln Waterfront Festival.
A total of 13 Lincoln based businesses submitted teams for the completion, including some of the City’s largest employers like Siemens and Lincolnshire Co-operative. The Banks Long Torpedoes team of ten rowers and a drummer raced in an authentic dragon boat over the 250m course along the historic Brayford Pool.
A mixture of skill, guile, determination and in the most part luck saw the Banks Long crew breeze through the heats and win their semi-final to set up a final against the Siemens Waterside Warriors and the Lincoln Sea Cadets. The final was an extremely close fought affair, however, the Banks Long Torpedoes were narrowly beaten into second place.
After years of underachievement, Banks Long finally lived up to their dragon boating potential and undaunted will be looking to build on these strong foundations to be at their peak in time for the 2012 Olympics.
