It’s Asda price for Newark

North Lincolnshire based M F Strawson Limited advised by Banks Long & Co have signed a Development Agreement with Newark and Sherwood District Council (the Council) and Asda which has kick started the retail lead mixed use Potterdyke regeneration project.

The Council granted planning consent in November 2008 for a 61,500 sq ft Asda foodstore, over 32,000 sq ft of shop units, PCT Health Centre, Doctors Surgery, new bus station, housing and 411 car parking spaces.

Director of M F Strawson Ltd, Niel Strawson said “We have worked closely with the Council, Asda and other key stakeholders since being selected to deliver this scheme in 2005.  We are delighted to have signed the agreements with our partners and construction can now begin”.

Tim Bradford, Partner of Banks Long & Co who has been advising M F Strawson Ltd since the start, explained “This is great news for Newark.  The town is in need of another foodstore and Asda will anchor the development and allow 11 new retail units to be built to modern day retailer requirements.  We are looking forward to letting the shop units.  In our opinion the strength of Newark,  pent up retailer demand and shortage of new retail space being delivered on a national scale will allow us to create a vibrant and attractive mix of retailers to compliment the new foodstore”.

Adsa is aiming to open its new store by Christmas 2011 with the shop units targeted for Easter 2012.
