Society make landmark purchase
One of the City Centre’s landmark properties, The Barbican Hotel has been bought by Lincolnshire Co-operative Society.
With Licenced properties in decline the Co-op, who have also recently bought The Green Dragon and The Blandings are committed to seeing this well known hotel, bar and restaurant re-opened and restored to its’ former glory.
Matthew Jones, Head of Estates and Property at Lincolnshire Co-operative said: “We have succeeded in attracting substantial investment for The Green Dragon and The Blandings and feel that The Barbican has even more potential. We are committed to protecting the vitality and viability of the City Centre through careful investment in retail and leisure property which creates a daytime and evening economy for the central business area”.
The Barbican is in need of a substantial refurbishment programme, which the Co-op are offering to the right tenant. Letting agents for the property are Banks Long & Co, Partner Tim Bradford commented: “With twenty-one letting hotel bedrooms, a large bar and an independently accessed restaurant with a fully-fitted commercial kitchen, it is a rare opportunity in the City Centre. Add to that, a Landlord with the financial capacity and the willingness to work with the ingoing tenant, all suggests that the property will be brought back into use very quickly”.
Built in 1867 and full of original Victorian features, The Barbican is an imposing property which is ideal for hotel use being opposite the railway station, taxi rank and close to the bus station. Tim Bradford concluded: “All we need know is a tenant with the vision, enthusiasm and experience to turn this tired shell into a thriving hotel, bar and restaurant facility, a use much needed in this City Centre location”.
